Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center has launched a unique online platform for studying history in schools

Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center also launched a unique educational IT product - the online platform "Red Spot of Memory": https://edu.babynyar.org/. The platform will become a tool for preserving, studying, and researching the history of the Second World War and the Holocaust. It was created as an assistant to history teachers and offers a new method of teaching the school discipline that is interactive and interesting for students.

The platform itself and methodological materials for treatment of educational projects of the platform have been approved by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

The projects on the online platform "Red Spot of Memory" are based on student crowdsourcing. Participation is based on a research approach – working with primary sources. Even now, students and teachers are documenting the local and regional history of World War II and the Holocaust in real time using their own smartphones. They record the memories of eyewitnesses, digitize museum exhibits and artifacts from home archives, and search for information about local monuments to the victims of the Holocaust.

All recorded statements and digitized artifacts are added to the platform and become red dots on the map making thus a common unified history.

"The main principle of a student's work with the platform is learning through empathy. In contrast to the traditional approach, working with the platform provides an experience of historical events through immersion in the history of own family and, as a consequence, empathy, in the way the events of those times were felt by the relatives of the child, - said the head of educational projects of the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center Anna Mazarchuk. – We want to contribute to the formation of a society in which it is impossible to repeat a tragedy like the Holocaust. And we encourage all teachers to involve students in working with the platform and enrich history lessons with project and research methods."

Recall: earlier Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center announces recruitment of teachers who in their regions will become ambassadors of the Educational Project "Red Spot of Memory".
